Professor Dr. Susan Stokes

Biography

Susan Stokes is the Tiffany Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago. Her research and teaching interests focus on democratic theory, the functioning of democracy in developing societies, and the study of political behavior. Stokes has authored and co-authored significant works, including 'Mandates Democracy: Neoliberalism Surprise Latin America' (2001), 'Brokers, Voters, Clientelism: A Puzzle of Distributive Politics' (2013), and 'Bother? Rethinking Participation in Elections and Protests' (2019). She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, contributing to her reputation as a leading scholar in her field.
