Professor Susan Tighe currently holds the Endowed Chair in Sustainable Pavement Engineering and is a founding member of the Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT) at the University of Waterloo. Before assuming the Director role in September 2010, she served as the Associate Director for Research and Technology at CPATT from 2005 to 2010 and has been a past Canada Research Chair in Pavement Infrastructure Management. Tighe is recognized as part of the inaugural class of the New College of Scholars of the Royal Society of Canada and was named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 for her leadership and vision in the Canadian Transportation Community. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) Research & Development Medal and the Transportation Canada Academic Merit Award. Since starting at the University of Waterloo in 2000, she has successfully supervised over 40 graduate students. An author of 400 technical publications in pavement infrastructure, Tighe is involved as a principal investigator in several national and international research projects, having experience in countries such as Africa, India, Chile, China, Australia, and New Zealand. She has also worked for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario and has spent sabbaticals in Australia, focusing on pavement engineering. Her research interests include pavement design and management, material characterization, life cycle cost analysis, airport engineering, sustainability, green roads, climate change, concrete pavements, and infrastructure management.
