Biography

Susana Y. Kimura-Hara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary, where she joined in July 2017. Prior to her current position, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of South Carolina’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and held another postdoctoral position at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research primarily focuses on drinking water treatment and analytical chemistry toxicology, emphasizing the characterization and application of nanobubble technology in medical and agricultural fields, along with identifying the formation mechanisms of unregulated disinfection by-products using advanced mass spectrometry techniques. Dr. Kimura leads a research group aimed at improving drinking water safety and characterizing contaminants formed during water treatment processes while encouraging undergraduate and graduate student involvement.
