Dr. Susanna Leong

Biography

Professor Susanna Leong is the Vice President of Applied Research at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). She oversees the development and growth of applied research, formulating and implementing strategies and policies to enhance the quality and integrity of research activities at the university. Her current research interests include biomolecular engineering, bioprocess engineering, and their applications in food, healthcare, and bioremediation. She is engaged in ongoing research projects in close partnerships with local enterprises, multinational companies, and government agencies, with an intent to drive translation. Professor Leong serves on national technical panels and startup review panels, contributing her expertise to various scientific communities. She is also a member of the editorial boards for international peer-reviewed journals, including 'Chemical Engineering Science' and 'Food Bioproducts Processing'. Her academic journey includes a BEng, First Class Honours, and an MPhil in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Her research contributions have earned her accolades, including the Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship in Engineering and the Public Administration Medal (Bronze). She is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
