Biography

Susannah is a design engineer specializing in medical devices. She holds degrees in engineering from the University of Cambridge and industrial design from the Royal College of Art. She has won numerous awards for her design concepts and has spent a year researching inclusive design at the Engineering Design Centre, University of Cambridge, while completing her PhD in computational analysis of total joint replacement at Imperial College London under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Phillips. Susannah has commercial experience in the orthopaedic and architectural industries and has worked as a freelance design consultant. Her current research focuses on patient-matched surgical guidance for orthopaedic surgeries. Together with Prof. Justin Cobb, she established Embody, an orthopaedic company specializing in custom planning instrumentation, in July 2012 at the MSK Lab at Charing Cross Hospital. She is particularly interested in complex cases involving 3D pre-operative modelling and intra-operative guidance to assist with planning during surgery.
