Dr. Susanne Binder

Biography

Susanne Binder is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University, where she is also a member of the Australian Centre for Egyptology. Her research focuses on Egyptology, particularly during the New Kingdom, where she explores themes such as Egyptian administration, society, prosopography, and archaeology. She has authored significant works related to 19th-century German manuscript documents and travel accounts, especially regarding the German expedition by Richard Lepsius. Susanne coordinates archaeological fieldwork for the Macquarie Theban Tombs Project, contributing to the understanding of ancient Egyptian tombs and working with teams on various excavation projects in Luxor, Egypt. In addition to her research, she has a strong track record of teaching in German Studies and Egyptology, having developed and taught various courses at different levels. Her accomplishments include multiple teaching awards, recognizing her contributions to enhancing student learning at Macquarie University, alongside her active supervision roles for higher degree research students in areas related to ancient Egyptian culture and society.
