Biography

Susanne Cote received her PhD in 2008 from Harvard University, specializing in Biological Anthropology. She has participated in paleontological fieldwork at numerous sites in eastern Africa, particularly in the Turkana Basin and Tugen Hills. Dr. Cote has collaborated with the National Museums of Kenya and Uganda Museums, conducting research in those regions. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary's Department of Anthropology and Archaeology. In her role, Dr. Cote works with interdisciplinary teams in Kenya and Uganda, focusing on fieldwork in the Turkana Basin as a co-director of the West Turkana Miocene Project alongside Dr. James Rossie from Stony Brook University. Her research interests include paleontology, paleoanthropology, and the study of African Cenozoic mammals, particularly in regards to the Hominoidea.
