Susanne Lens is a Full Professor at the University Medical Center Utrecht, leading the Genomic Instability program at the Center of Molecular Medicine. She is also a Principal Investigator at the Oncode Institute and the director of the PhD program in Clinical Translational Oncology within the Graduate School of Life Sciences at Utrecht University. She obtained her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Leiden University in 1993 and completed her PhD in Immunology at the University of Amsterdam in 1998. Following her PhD, she was awarded a KWF young investigator fellowship and conducted postdoctoral research on apoptosis inhibitors in the cancer lab of Jürg Tschopp in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2001, her research focus shifted towards immunology, particularly death receptor signaling and the mechanisms of faithful chromosome segregation during mitosis at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. She has received multiple grants, including the NWO-Vidi grant in 2005 and the NWO-Vici grant in 2011, to continue her research on chromosomal instability and aneuploidy in cancer.
