Biography

Sushanta Mitra is a full Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, where he also serves as the Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN), Canada's largest nanotechnology institute. He has held various administrative roles in Canadian higher education, including Department Chair at the Lassonde School of Engineering, Associate Vice-President of Research at York University, and Assistant Vice-President of Research at the University of Alberta. Elected as a fellow of several professional organizations, including the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the American Physical Society, Mitra's contributions to science and engineering have been widely recognized. He is also an entrepreneur, having founded Canadian startup Aquabits Inc. and Dutch startup SLE Enterprises B.V. His research interests encompass Microfluidics, Nanofluidics, Interfacial Science, Bio-MEMS, Integrated Water Management, Fuel Cells, Transport Processes, and Porous Media.
