Dr. Sushmita Roy

Biography

Sushmita Roy is a Professor specializing in Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research focuses on the development and application of computational methods based on statistical machine learning to understand gene regulatory networks that control gene expression patterns in living cells. She is particularly interested in identifying networks under various contexts such as environmental, developmental, disease, and population species contexts. Her work includes comparing networks across different contexts and understanding the changes in regulatory networks that cause differences across these contexts. Dr. Roy employs methods that harness the increasingly available bulk and single-cell genomic measurements applicable to diverse plant and mammalian systems. Her research group works on developing methods for genome-scale transcriptional regulatory network inference using bulk and single-cell omic datasets, evolutionary analysis of gene regulatory networks, and understanding 3D genome organization.
