Dr. Suzanne Estaphan

Biography

Suzanne Estaphan is a motivated, energetic medical teacher and researcher at the Australian National University, where she serves as a Senior Lecturer in Medical Sciences with a focus on Physiology. She holds multiple qualifications, including an M.B.B.Ch. (2005), Diploma in Pediatrics (2009), MSc in Physiology (2012), and a Doctorate in Physiology (2015), along with a Basic Certificate in Medical Education (2018). Over her career, Suzanne has held various clinical academic positions and currently convenes several undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the Bachelor of Health Science and Medical programs. She is actively involved in medical school admissions, assessment, and curriculum committees. Since entering academia in 2008, she has contributed to numerous high-profile international conferences and has been recognized as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in 2023. Her research interests primarily involve the effects of oxidative stress and inflammation in physiology and pathophysiology, particularly in relation to medical conditions. Suzanne has over a dozen publications and secured $200,000 in funding for her research, focusing on oxidative damage's effects on various organs and exploring interventions like antioxidant drugs. She also has a keen interest in medical education research and is co-leading a national project aiming to achieve consensus on core concepts in physiology.
