Biography

Suzanne Hedberg is an attending surgeon specializing in benign upper gastrointestinal surgery at the University of Gothenburg. She defended her doctoral thesis on improving procedure selection and surgical techniques in bariatric surgery. Her research primarily focuses on outcomes and complications related to metabolic and bariatric surgery, with a specialized interest in registry-based research and collaborations. Dr. Hedberg is an active member of the steering committee of the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry (SOReg) and serves as vice chairperson. She is the local principal investigator in Gothenburg for various studies, including the Bypass Equipoise Sleeve Trial, which compares common procedures in metabolic bariatric surgery. Her publications span high-impact journals and cover ten-year results, glycaemic weight effects of metabolic surgery, and various clinical trials defining the impact on diabetes, hypertension, and other comorbidities.
