Professor Dr. Suzanne Mohney

Biography

Suzanne Mohney is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State University, where she also holds a courtesy title as Professor of Electrical Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1994 and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. Since joining Penn State in 2004, Mohney has earned recognition for her research and teaching, receiving multiple awards including the Electrochemical Society and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Faculty Mentoring Award. Her research focuses on the investigation of electronic and photonic materials, specifically the synthesis and processing of thin films and nanostructures for use in electronic and optoelectronic devices. She employs techniques such as physical vapor deposition and atomic layer deposition in her research. Mohney's work integrates cross-disciplinary collaboration, involving partnerships with various research groups in electrical engineering, physics, and chemistry. Her projects have implications for high-temperature electronics, sensors, and energy-efficient technologies such as photovoltaics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).
