Biography

Suzanne Seriff is a Professor of Instruction in the Department of Folklore, Cultural Anthropology, and Jewish Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. An award-winning educator, she has a rich background in museum and community arts. Her work emphasizes hands-on learning, community engagement, and innovative course design that fosters critical analytical thinking and creative problem solving. Over the years, Seriff has curated many interactive and community-engaged exhibitions recognized by esteemed organizations like the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 2018, she created and currently directs an arts and social justice internship program aimed at connecting liberal arts students with community non-profits. Her commitment to experiential learning extends into community-wide projects, such as a course on Civil Rights era activism in Austin and a Signature Maymester course exploring immigrant stories through traditional arts. Seriff continues to innovate in her teaching and research, engaging students with experiential learning in public arts festivals, oral history interviews, and more.
