Biography

Suzanne Tharin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University Medical Center, where she has been a faculty member since 2012. She completed her undergraduate degree in Physiology and a Master’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Toronto, followed by a PhD in Genetics at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and SUNY Stony Brook. Dr. Tharin received her MD from Columbia University and completed her neurosurgery residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital Boston, and Harvard Medical School. She served a clinical fellowship in complex spine surgery at Cleveland Clinic. Her research focuses on the molecular controls of cortical neuronal development, spinal cord injury, and regenerative strategies for spinal cord repair. Dr. Tharin applies her clinical expertise as a practicing neurosurgeon at the Palo Alto VA and Stanford University Hospital, where she is dedicated to translating insights from neural development into treatment approaches for spinal cord injuries.
