Biography

Suzanne Trill studied English Literature at the University of Southampton and pursued her PhD in Renaissance Women’s Writing at the University of Liverpool. She has taught part-time at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University. In 1992, she was appointed as a Lecturer at Queen’s University of Belfast before moving to the University of Edinburgh in 1997. Dr. Trill has published widely on early modern women’s writing and has been a recipient of research awards from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust. She became a Senior Lecturer in 2006 and served as the Lynn Wood Neag Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut in 2007. From 2009 to 2012, she was the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures and held leadership roles in the University College Union from 2009 to 2013. Her recent work includes the modernized edition of Anne, Lady Halkett's ‘True Account of Life and Selected Meditations,’ published in the Voice series in 2022. In January 2023, she became the Head of English Scottish Literature and focuses her research on Tudor and Jacobean women’s devotional poetry and Protestant devotional literature.
