Suzanne Trill studied English Literature at the University of Southampton and pursued her PhD in Renaissance Women's Writing at the University of Liverpool. She taught part-time at the University of Liverpool and John Moores University and was appointed Lecturer at Queen’s University of Belfast in 1992. In 1997, she joined the University of Edinburgh, where she has published widely on early modern women’s writing and has been recognized as a recipient of research awards from the AHRC and Leverhulme Trust. Trill became a Senior Lecturer in 2006 and served as the Lynn Wood Neag Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut in 2007. She has played a significant role in the governance of the University of Edinburgh, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies and in various leadership positions within the University Colleges Union (UCU) from 2009 to 2018. Her research includes the editing of Anne, Lady Halkett’s works and focusing on Tudor and Jacobean English women’s devotional poetry. She has a strong interest in the theories of early modern women’s self-writing and archival resources, particularly in relation to Protestant devotional literature and the history of sexuality.
