Biography

Suzi Hong, a professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, specializes in the intersection of psychoneuroimmunology and behavioral medicine. She received her PhD in Exercise Psychobiology and Immunology from the University of Georgia after obtaining a Master's degree in Exercise Psychology from the University of Illinois. With extensive post-doctoral training in psychoneuroimmunology and behavioral medicine research at UCSD, her focus areas include neuroendocrine immune cell activation, exercise, and the immune system's role in cognitive and psychological impacts. Professor Hong leads NIH-funded studies probing immune cell activation's implications for chronic inflammatory conditions and depression among older adults and socially under-resourced populations. She employs cellular immunology methods in her role as the research director of the UCSD Integrative Health Mind-Body Biomarker Core. Her recent projects address social determinants of depression and the neuro-immune mechanisms linked to mental health in vulnerable youth populations affected by HIV.
