Biography

Sven Ouzman is an archaeologist and heritage specialist with extensive expertise in rock art, graffiti, heritage studies, and Indigenous knowledge. He completed his BA Honours at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, followed by both an MA and PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. He has held significant academic positions, including Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria's Department of Anthropology & Archaeology and Curator of Archaeology at Iziko South African Museum. He joined the University of Western Australia in 2013, where he has contributed to the Centre for Rock Art Research and Management. His research encompasses documenting over 4,000 rock art sites in Southern Africa and Northern Australia and establishing multiple rock art site museums. Ouzman has taught a range of courses in Archaeology and developed various educational programs aimed at integrating socio-cultural contexts. His work has received recognition in the form of a State Heritage Award, highlighting his commitment to cultural heritage preservation. Ouzman's current projects include collaborative efforts on the Dududu Dunggaba Cultural Landscape and managing heritage values of the Martuwarra river region.
