Dr. Sven Tönnies

Biography

Sven Tönnies is a retired professor from the Institute of Psychology at the University of Hamburg. His educational background includes studies in Psychology, Education, and Sociology at Hamburg from 1967 to 1972. He started working as a research assistant in Clinical Psychology and Education under Professor Reinhard Tausch at the University of Hamburg in 1972. Throughout his career, he held positions at various universities, including guest professorships at Kazan State University and Kazan State Medical University in Tatarstan, as well as Moscow State Regional University in Russia. Tönnies has contributed significantly to the field of Health Psychology, being a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Health Psychology at Asanger Publishing and serving as Vice-President of the German Society for Health Psychology. Over his academic tenure, he has published numerous books and articles focusing on anxiety treatments, psychosomatic disorders, and the effectiveness of therapeutic methods. His notable works include studies on dental anxiety, smoking cessation through hypnosis, and treatment methodologies for tinnitus patients. He continues to influence the field through his publications and expertise in Psychotherapy and Psychological Education.
