Svetlana Kaminskaïa completed her undergraduate studies at Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus, focusing on the structure of languages. In Canada, she pursued her passion for studying intonation and French dialects. Her PhD research examined intonational differences in Canadian French spoken in the Quebec City region versus European French from the Troyes region, particularly in spontaneous speech. Utilizing a normalization procedure, she was able to compare voice qualities and identify dialectal markers that create prosodic variation. Currently, her research focuses on French in contact and includes studying the French spoken by learners in minority settings in Ontario, particularly in the Windsor region. She is intrigued by prosody and examines social and stylistic variation in rhythm and intonation. Her analyses also involve comparing dialects of French spoken in majority settings in Ontario, Quebec, and France. One of her main research goals is to enrich the prosodic description of Canadian French dialects and second language French.
