Biography

Swaroop Darbha is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Gulf Oil/Thomas Dietz Professor at Texas A&M University. He is also an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Ocean Engineering. Dr. Darbha received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994, and has since built a strong research profile focused on decision control algorithms and enabling autonomy in engineering applications. His work encompasses advanced air mobility, robotics, intelligent transportation systems, and control and applied optimization. He has made significant contributions to the field and has been recognized with several honors, including being named a Fellow of the IEEE in 2018 and a Fellow of ASME in 2010. Dr. Darbha has also been awarded the IEEE ITSS Distinguished Lecturer for 2025 and received accolades for his teaching, including the Tenneco Award for Meritorious Teaching of Engineering in 2009.
