Biography

Swarun Kumar is the Sathaye Family Foundation Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Computer Science. His research focuses on building next-generation wireless network protocols and services, and he leads the Emerging Wireless Technologies (WiTech) lab at CMU. Kumar has received several prestigious awards, including the George Sprowls Award for his Ph.D. thesis in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the President of India Gold Medal from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Educated at IIT Madras, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering and later completed his Ph.D. at MIT in 2015. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to the design of novel techniques that extend the range of low-power networks and has been recognized with the ACM SIGMOBILE Rockstar Award for his outstanding contributions in the field. His work is aimed at increasing wireless connectivity and improving communication methodologies.
