Dr. Swarun Kumar

Biography

Swarun Kumar is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science Department. He is also affiliated with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. His research interests are concentrated on Distributed Systems, Mobile Computing, Pervasive Computing, and Networking. He focuses particularly on the area of computer networks with an emphasis on wireless networks and mobile systems. In recent years, Swarun's work has addressed fundamental technical challenges that hinder the growth of wireless networks, enabling the development of innovative applications and services. His past research includes developing interference management solutions for mobile networks, emphasizing the importance of signal processing and software architecture in addressing interference issues in commodity Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Swarun has also explored the intersection of wireless networking with various fields such as robotics, radar, computer vision, and security signal processing. His contributions aim to achieve significant improvements in network throughput and to design novel services for the Internet of Things, leveraging existing wireless infrastructure to create intelligent environments.
