Dr. Sydney Howell

Biography

Sydney Howell has been educated at Cambridge and Manchester Universities and worked with organizations like Alcan, Ranks Hovis McDougall, and Philips Electronic Components. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester's Business School, focusing on forecasts, production, and inventory management of electronic components. He joined the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) to teach Management Accounting and Control methods, along with applied multivariate statistics. During the 1980s, he was seconded to Brussels to teach at IBM's school of International Finance, Planning, and Administration, where he taught IBM in 12 countries. Howell has contributed significantly to the evolution of the MBA course at AMBS, promoting compulsory in-company consultancy projects. His consultancy work spans multi-million pound training programs for firms like Arthur Andersen, IBM, and BP, as he designed and delivered specific training for clients. His research has focused on the use of modern financial mathematical tools to model management issues in energy systems, claiming multiple grants in the domain of finance and mathematics. Presently, he supervises PhD students involved in advanced research projects linked to nuclear power and sustainable energy storage solutions. Furthermore, Howell's expertise relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a commitment to educational advancement and sustainable practices in industrial contexts.
