Biography

Syed Islam obtained his PhD with Distinction in Computer Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2011. His research focuses on developing efficient algorithms for human recognition using 2D and 3D images, currently addressing critical challenges in maritime surveillance and dental applications. He has published 28 scholarly articles with an h-index of 18 and has attracted 155 citations. Currently, he holds an Adjunct Senior Lecturer position at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and collaborates with the Curtin School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and UWA School of Dentistry on various multidisciplinary projects. Syed has secured several competitive research grants and served as an Associate Editor for five journals, as well as a reviewer for numerous others. He has expertise in Computer Vision, Image Processing, Computer Graphics, and Robotics, with future research interests in health and agriculture applications of these technologies.
