Sylvain Ladame received his Ph.D. in Chemistry focusing on biomolecules in 2001 from the University of Toulouse, France. He worked for five years in the research group of Professor Shankar Balasubramanian at the Chemistry Department of the University of Cambridge, UK, where he developed a strong interest in molecular recognition of nucleic acids. In 2006, he joined the CNRS Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS) at the University of Strasbourg, France, where he created a junior research laboratory focusing on Chemistry of Biomolecules. In July 2010, he was appointed as a Lecturer in Biosensor Development in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London. Dr. Ladame has spent over ten years working in the field of nucleic acid ligands and probes, during which he has published more than 30 papers. His current research interests involve engineering small molecules and proteins for sensing and targeting nucleic acid structures in vivo. His group aims to develop original chemical and biochemical tools to explore key biological processes, including DNA transcription and DNA damage repair mechanisms, with a focus on identifying new therapeutic targets and disease-related biomarkers. He welcomes highly motivated prospective postgraduate students and researchers to contact him by email.
