Biography

Sylvia Biscoveanu joined Princeton University as an assistant professor in physics in September 2025. She earned her PhD in Physics in 2023 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed her postdoctoral research as a NASA Einstein Fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University. Previously, she was a Fulbright postgraduate scholar at Monash University and obtained her undergraduate degrees from Pennsylvania State University in 2017. Dr. Biscoveanu is a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and her research focuses on probing aspects of astrophysics and cosmology through the analysis of gravitational wave data. Specifically, she utilizes Bayesian inference techniques to learn about the properties of compact-object mergers and their electromagnetic counterparts, as well as investigating the stochastic gravitational wave background.
