Biography

Sylvia Kairouz is a Full Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. She has published extensively in the fields of sociology, social epidemiology, and public health journals. Her research interests focus on Gambling, Addictive Behaviors, Social Inequalities, and Gambling Technologies in Cyberspace. Kairouz has been recognized with the Brain Star Award from the Canadian Institute of Health Research for her innovative work on the role of social contexts in alcohol consumption. Currently, she is engaged in funded research that examines comprehensive multilevel models determining gambling behaviors and has piloted six large population surveys in Quebec over five years. Additionally, she collaborates with scholars from key institutions both locally and internationally and holds the FQRSC research chair for the study of gambling. Kairouz heads the Lifestyle Addiction Research Lab at Concordia University and continues to contribute valuable insights into the understanding of gambling behaviors and their implications in society.
