Biography

Sylvia K. Plevritis is the William M. Hume Professor at Stanford University in the Department of Biomedical Data Science, and also serves as a Professor of Radiology. She leads a systems biology cancer research program that bridges multiomic, imaging, and clinical population data to decipher properties of cancer progression and drug response. Dr. Plevritis holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Health Services Research, both from Stanford University, where her research has focused on cancer imaging and physics modeling of cancer outcomes. She is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and has served on numerous NIH study sections. Further, she has chaired scientific programs for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and presented keynote lectures on computational cancer biology. Dr. Plevritis is also a member of the NCI Board of Scientific Advisors, a role she has held since 2016. As the Program Director of the Stanford Center for Cancer Systems Biology (CCSB), she oversees significant research initiatives, including the NCI Cancer Intervention Surveillance Network.
