Biography

Sylvia M. Vargas is a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Interim Family Nurse Practitioner Program Coordinator at the Texas A&M College of Nursing. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Advanced Practice Leadership from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, earned in 2021. She previously obtained her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2013, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas Pan American in 2009. With certifications as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Texas, Vargas is also board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her professional interests revolve around health promotion and wellness, improving access to care in rural and underserved areas, and nursing education. Throughout her career, she has contributed to community health and the transition of Registered Nurses to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) programs. Sylvia has received various awards, including the Texas Nurse Practitioners Scholarship in 2012, and is an active member of professional organizations such as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Southern Nursing Research Society.
