Biography

Sylvie Frigon holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge, UK. She is a professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa, where she has been teaching since 1993. As Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, she has significantly contributed to the academic community. Frigon has held the Joint Chair in Women's Studies at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University from 2014-2016. Currently, she is a Senior Research Associate at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge. Over the years, she has published several scientific articles and chapters and authored various works, including a novel entitled 'Écorchées' focusing on women's experiences in prison. In 2010, she published 'Ariane et son secret' aimed at younger readers and expanded her expertise into dance therapy through collaboration with dance professionals like Claire Jenny. She received the Faculty of Social Sciences' Teaching Excellence Award in 2011. Her recent work includes an edited volume 'Dance, Confinement, Resilient Bodies' published in 2019. Frigon actively engages in projects addressing women in prisons, evidenced by her partnership with the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Her interdisciplinary approach combines criminology, sociology, and the arts.
