Biography

Sytle Antao is a Professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Calgary. He earned his Ph.D. in Geology from Stony Brook University in 2006, as well as an M.S. and B.S. in Geology from Kuwait University in 2001 and 1999, respectively. His research interests primarily focus on the structural arrangement of atoms in materials and processes that govern stability under ambient and extreme pressure and temperature conditions, with an emphasis on crystal chemistry. He employs advanced experimental techniques for structural characterization of materials and investigates mineral physics to address environmental issues such as carbon capture and storage. He has received several accolades for his work, including the Young Scientist Award from the Mineralogical Association of Canada in 2012, the Department of Geoscience Research Excellence Award from the University of Calgary in 2010, and the New Faculty Award from Alberta Ingenuity in 2009. For more than a decade, he has made significant contributions to the field through numerous publications in reputable scientific journals, highlighting his expertise in mineralogy and crystallography.
