Biography

Tad Schmaltz is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Michigan. He joined the faculty in 2010 after serving 21 years at Duke University. He has published extensively on early modern philosophy, particularly focusing on the works of seventeenth and eighteenth-century thinkers. Schmaltz's research interests encompass a range of topics in early modern thought, including the influence of late scholasticism, philosophical contributions of women, and the implications of the Scientific Revolution on substance-mode metaphysics and accounts of causation.
