Taha Merghoub is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Weill Cornell Medicine. He earned his BA from the University of Algiers, Algeria, and his MS and PhD with highest distinction from the University of Paris, France. His dissertation investigated genetic polymorphism of the fetal hemoglobin gene in patients with sickle cell anemia and thalassemia, contributing to a better understanding of the correlation between genotypes and phenotypes in these blood disorders. Dr. Merghoub started his postdoctoral research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) under Dr. Pier Paolo Pandolfi, where he characterized the transcriptional properties of the ZBTB7 gene and its role in development. In his subsequent roles at MSK, including Senior Research Scientist and later as an assistant attending biologist, he directed research efforts in tumor immunity, developing mouse models for melanoma to evaluate new immunotherapies throughout tumor progression. In September 2022, he was appointed as a Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he directs a translational tumor immunology laboratory focused on potential immune-based therapies for cancer, particularly studying the pathogenesis of melanoma. His research interests also involve the development of techniques to study immune responses across multiple cancers and overcoming resistance to immune checkpoint blockade therapies. His work is heavily collaborative, combining insights from various disciplines to advance cancer treatment.
