Biography

Tai-ping Sun is the John Carlisle Kilgo Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biology at Duke University, with an academic career focused on the exploration of gibberellin (GA), a diterpenoid phytohormone that is crucial for regulating growth, development, and the life cycle of higher plants. His notable contributions to the field include research that links mutations affecting GA biosynthesis and GA response to key controls over plant stature in wheat and rice, which have significantly increased grain yields and contributed to the success of the 'Green Revolution' in the 1960s. Employing a range of multifaceted approaches and the model organism Arabidopsis, Sun's lab has achieved major breakthroughs in unveiling the molecular mechanisms involved in GA signaling and its regulatory pathways.
