Taisir Elgorashi received a PhD degree in optical networking from the University of Leeds, U.K., in 2010. He held a postdoctoral research position at the University of Leeds from 2010 to 2014, focusing on energy efficiency in optical networks, investigating the use of renewable energy in core networks, green data centers, and distributed cloud computing network virtualization. The energy efficiency techniques developed during his postdoctoral research contributed to eight carefully chosen core network energy efficiency improvement measures recommended by the GreenTouch consortium, which includes 55 leading ICT industry and academic research organizations and operator networks worldwide. As a BT Research Fellow in 2012, he studied hybrid wireless optical broadband access networks. After joining King’s College London, he became a lecturer in optical networks within the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is a Co-Investigator on the EPSRC Terabit Bidirectional Multi-user Optical Wireless System (TOWS) project, collaborating with Airbus, BBC, BT, Microsoft, and pureLiFi. He has been awarded the IET 2016 Premium Award for his paper in IET Optoelectronics, and he serves as an Associate Editor for IET Optoelectronics and IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking. Taisir has co-chaired multiple symposia and technical programs for IEEE Communication Society flagship conferences and was involved in the IEEE Sustainability ICT Summit in 2019 as chair of a working group setting a standard for energy-efficient content distribution. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
