Biography

Taiwo Afolabi is a professor and interdisciplinary artistic scholar at the University of Regina, specializing in research-based theatre with a focus on social justice, human rights, and anti-racism education. He has internationally recognized expertise in applied theatre practices and community engagement, particularly among Indigenous, immigrant, and marginalized communities. His work encompasses global theatre projects addressing critical issues such as policing, sexual health education, and sustainability, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. Afolabi is the director of the Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre (C-SET) and a Canada Research Chair at the Tier II level. He has extensive experience working in over a dozen countries across four continents, focusing on community-based creative practices that drive transformational change. In addition to his artistic endeavors, he has published numerous articles and co-edited books in reputable journals. Afolabi also serves as the Vice-President of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR) and has held prominent positions such as Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg and founding director of Theatre Emissary International (TEMi) in Nigeria and Canada.
