Biography

Takeshi Takahara began his academic career at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, where he taught art and established a printmaking program. He joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1982, teaching foundation drawing, life drawing, printmaking, and intaglio, demonstrating his specialized expertise in these areas. In 2005, he was named Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in recognition of his consistently outstanding performance in undergraduate teaching, the highest honor accorded to faculty members at the University of Michigan. Takahara has participated in over 40 solo exhibitions and more than 80 competitive and invitational group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His recent work investigates the phenomena of natural resources and water, challenging the boundaries of traditional printmaking by creating a series of dimensional pieces that incorporate both encaustic techniques and digital technology.
