Biography

Tal Malkin is a professor who directs the Cryptography Lab and serves as the inaugural chair of the Cybersecurity Center at the Data Science Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Bar-Ilan University, a Master of Science from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and a PhD from MIT. Before joining Columbia University, he worked as a research scientist at AT&T Labs Research. He has chaired several major conferences, including CRYPTO, CCS, TCC, ACNS, and CT-RSA, and currently chairs the steering committee of the Theory of Cryptography Conference. Malkin is a fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research and has received numerous accolades, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and faculty awards from JP Morgan, IBM, and Google, as well as the Avanessians Diversity Award from Columbia's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. Additionally, he has received the Presidential Teaching Award from Columbia University. He is married to Erich Nahum and has children.
