Biography

Tamar Novick is a historian specializing in the intersections of science, technology, and the environment. Her research centers on topics including agriculture, animals, bodily waste management, and fertility studies in the context of Palestine and Israel. Novick’s book, 'Milk & Honey: Technologies of Plenty in the Making of the Holy Land' published by MIT Press in 2023, has garnered recognition as a finalist for the 2024 George Perkins Marsh Prize for environmental history. She has also served as an editor for various special issues in notable journals such as 'Technology and Culture', 'Journal of Material Culture', and 'Osiris'. Novick joined the Technical University of Munich’s School of Social Sciences and Technology as an Assistant Professor of the History of Technology in March 2025, following her PhD in History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, she has acted as a Senior Research Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for History of Science and was the Chair of Science Studies at ETH Zürich, where she received the prestigious Gerda Henkel Foundation scholarship.
