Biography

Tamara El-Hoss is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Brock University. She holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor’s degree in French Studies from York University. Her research focuses on themes of displacement, particularly within the context of graphic novels and bande dessinée that explore (im)migrant and refugee narratives, as well as (de)colonial histories and politics. El-Hoss is also interested in the dynamics of (im)migrant and refugee identities, examining gender roles, trauma, diaspora, queer identities, and alterity. Moreover, she investigates post-colonial Francophone literatures from regions such as the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean, with a special emphasis on the depiction of marginal subjects and issues surrounding cultural, religious, and linguistic métissage. El-Hoss teaches a variety of courses related to French literature and culture, including studies on Francophone cultures and critical methodologies in narrative arts, engaging students in a comprehensive understanding of the French-speaking world and its diverse literary contributions.
