Biography

Tamara Marie Kucheran is an Assistant Professor at the Fountain School of Performing Arts, Dalhousie University, specializing in Set Costume Design. With a BFA from the University of Victoria and an MA from the National Theatre School of Canada, she has worked with leading theatre professionals across Canada, including the Shaw Festival and the Stratford Festival. Tamara’s creative practice merges extensive historical research with innovative design, focusing on musicals, opera, and both classical and contemporary theatre. She has designed for the world premieres of productions such as 'Black Medea' and 'Intimate Apparel' and has significant experience in various scales of theatre. In 2019, she designed the Canadian regional premiere of 'Color Purple' at Neptune Theatre. Tamara is currently involved in a collaboration on the Macbeth VR Experience, an immersive digital theatrical project. She has received multiple awards for her work, including the Virginia Myrtle Cooper Award for Costume Design from the Ontario Arts Council. Her teaching credits span institutions such as the National Theatre School of Canada and Michigan State University. Tamara is a member of Associated Designers Canada and IATSE Local ADC659.
