Biography

Tamara LeCaire is an Epidemiologist and Population Health Scientist with extensive experience in conducting biomedical and population-based applied public health research. In 2020, she joined the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute (WAI), where she works under the leadership of Dr. Cynthia Carlsson to support the institute's overarching goals of increasing dementia awareness, reducing health disparities related to dementia, and improving the quality of dementia care. Prior to her role at WAI, Tamara served as the Associate Director of the Survey of Health in Wisconsin for 18 years, where she was the Project Director for a longitudinal study that followed individuals in the incident Type 1 diabetes cohort, known as the Wisconsin Diabetes Registry Study, led by current Principal Investigator Dr. Mari Palta. Tamara has established longstanding research interests in the prevention and early detection of diabetes-related complications, providing evidence that individuals diagnosed with diabetes benefit from intensive management practices that lead to lower rates of severe complications compared to those diagnosed decades earlier. Moving forward, she aims to bridge her work with WAI and her research interests to support improved early detection of cognitive dysfunction and subsequent dementia care for individuals with diabetes, especially those who are underserved and marginalized in community-based projects.
