Tamara O’Connor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She focuses on the molecular basis of infectious disease, with particular emphasis on the network of molecular interactions at the host-pathogen interface and pathogen evolution in natural reservoirs. O’Connor received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Canada, where she studied multicellular differentiation in the bacterium Streptomyces coelicolor. After completing her postdoctoral training at Tufts University School of Medicine, she joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 2013. O’Connor is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her research lab examines bacterial pathogenesis, virulence strategies, and the mechanisms by which bacterial pathogens cope with varying host environments, utilizing a range of methodologies including genetics, biochemistry, and functional genomics.
