Dr. Tamara Somers

Biography

Tamara J. Somers, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist and a Faculty Member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. Her research focuses on developing, testing, and implementing behavioral interventions for pain symptoms in patients with chronic diseases such as cancer and arthritis. Dr. Somers is particularly interested in tailoring behavioral interventions to meet the personalized needs of individual patients through innovative delivery methods. She co-directs the clinical psychology training program at the Duke Cancer Institute, training graduate students, clinical psychology interns, and post-doctoral fellows in psychosocial and behavioral symptom management interventions. Her work has received grants from various funding agencies including the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society, underscoring her contributions to improving patient care in oncology and chronic disease management.
