Biography

Tammy Bungard is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, where she has been a committed leader in the field of pharmacy practice, particularly in thrombosis and anticoagulation management. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Wayne State University in Detroit and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Alberta. In 2001, she joined the Division of Cardiology and has since developed and directed the Anticoagulation Management Services at the University of Alberta Hospital. Dr. Bungard's research focuses on the clinical management of thrombosis and the optimization of patient care by empowering pharmacists to operate at the full scope of their practice. She has secured over $2.5 million in grants and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles. She is also an advocate for the integration of education into clinical practice, teaching pharmacy students about thrombosis management and supervising research trainees. Dr. Bungard is actively involved in national organizations and has held various leadership positions within the Department of Medicine and Alberta Health Services. Her work extends to developing continuing medical education sessions and clinical tools aimed at improving anticoagulation management.
