Dr. Tamsyn Dent

Biography

Tamsyn Dent is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London specializing in cultural work and creative labor. Her research focuses on evaluating the significance of cultural and creative work in society, especially how such work is perceived and valued. Tamsyn has engaged in significant postdoctoral research on developing inclusive sustainable creative economies across ten European cities. Her doctoral work analyzed the challenges faced by mothers working in the UK's creative media landscape, spotlighting the intersection of policy, care, and precarious employment. Tamsyn's research interests encompass cultural work, employment policies, access and inclusion in creative sectors, and creative activism. She actively supervises PhD students in related fields and contributes to research teams advocating for diversity and equality in creative industries. Tamsyn has co-authored multiple publications addressing the impact of creative labor and the necessity for inclusive practices in education and the workforce. Her teaching addresses media production, gender dynamics in creative labor, and transnational cultural policies. She also collaborates frequently with UK governmental groups and industry organizations to promote and facilitate research aimed at improving diversity and inclusion within the creative sector.
