Biography

Tania Baker is the E. C. Whitehead Professor of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Her research focuses on the mechanisms that regulate enzyme-catalyzed protein unfolding and ATP-dependent protein degradation, as well as the remodeling of the proteome in response to cellular stress. She employs various techniques including biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, genetics, and single molecule biophysics to study these complex biological processes. Baker is dedicated to understanding the function of AAA+ unfoldases, which are vital macromolecular machines responsible for protein unfolding. She is not currently accepting students for mentoring. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades for her contributions to the field of biology, including being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
