Biography

Taniya Nagpal is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta, specializing in Maternal Health, Obesity, Stigma, Adherence, and Physical Activity. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences in 2014 and a PhD in Kinesiology in 2019, both from the University of Western Ontario. Following her doctoral studies, she undertook a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Ottawa from 2019 to 2021. Taniya’s research program investigates the psychosocial factors affecting weight stigma and its relationship with health behaviors during reproductive years, including preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum periods. Her work aims to develop resources for healthcare providers to improve weight-related attitudes and promote sensitive discussions around lifestyle counseling. Taniya is actively involved in several health promotion organizations including Obesity Canada and the American College of Sports Medicine. In her leisure time, she enjoys yoga, hiking, and watching movies with her family.
